One of the most popular attractions in the area is SLO's weekly farmers market which takes place on Higuera and adjoining streets downtown. This event is how the locals kick off each weekend of the year (except Thanksgiving) and it goes from 6-9 p.m.

California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) with more than 18,000+ students, hosts one of the finest engineering and business schools in the Nation and is constantly getting top ratings by "US News and World Report". In the 2008 edition of US News and World Report they ranked Cal Poly 4th in the Nation for Engineering Undergraduate schools and 10th in the Nation for Western Masters Programs.
