The Local Toy Bank is a volunteer organization formed to provide a merry Christmas to children of needy local families. We work closely with the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve 'Toys for Tots' Program, 'Coats for Kids' organization and Salvation Army to accomplish this goal.
New unwrapped toys and cash donations are collected during the months of October, November and December through a network of clubs, retail stores, service companies, manufacturing companies, restaurants, wineries, real estate companies, private individuals, and many others organizations. To promote donations these organizations typically offer discounts to customer, throw fund raising parties and make cash donations. The Toy Bank distributes toy collection boxes and cash donation boxes to help with this collection effort.
This years "Day of Giving" distribution is scheduled for Saturday, December 17th. Five days prior to the distribution, volunteers collect the toys , sort, and organize them to match the age/gender of the children registered. Cash donations are then used to off-set shortages of toys in various age groups. Parents must pre-register to verify eligibility and the age/gender of the children. On the day of the event, each parent arrives at a scheduled time, is provided babysitting, and then is escorted by a volunteer to pick the appropriate toys for their children.
